The Weekly Spill #18
the new look, the new queen of country music, and the new hall of fame nominee
Happy Sunday! If you missed me on Friday, blame the migraine that took me out for 4 days. I feel like this week lasted forever. I can’t believe the Super Bowl was only a week ago. Since so much happened (and I’m already behind), so I’ll just get get right into the beans of the week:
Beyoncé entering her country era: only the biggest thing to ever happen to country music. I will be counting down the days until March 29. Yee Haw.
The Wicked movie trailer: The other big thing that dropped during the Super Bowl. It seems like people feel meh about it. It does look oddly washed out? My musical theatre-kid ass will be seated on Thanksgiving though.
Cher nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Cher has finally been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the first time this year. You can vote once a day (link here), and you should. Seriously, go vote right now because she can’t lose to Dave Matthews Band, that’s so embarrassing. She’s an icon!
Zendaya in the 1995 Thierry Mugler robot suit at the Dune Premiere: Zendaya showed up in the A/W 1995 Thierry Mugler robot suit from the archive. The rest of the cast looks great, but no one does a red carpet like her. Obsessed. Love. Perfection. Still not going to go see that movie because I didn’t see the first one, watching the trailer made me feel exhausted, and seeing those nose things makes my nose itch.
Side note: I found this article all about that 1995 show that I recommend checking out.
Alexander McQueen loses the Alexander: Seán McGirr has released his first campaign for Alexander McQueen ahead of his first runway show. It appears he has dropped the “Alexander” from the brand’s name. This trend of creative directors immediately changing something about the brand name once they take over is getting so tired to me (I’m still mad about “Rabanne”). This one is worse than the others because when I tried to google “McQueen” to find the campaign images, all of the results were all of Lightning McQueen. So now it’s annoying and a nightmare for SEO.
The New Look: A historical drama TV series following Dior, Chanel, Balmain, and Balenciaga during and directly after WW2? Of course I am watching. Lana Del Rey being on the soundtrack? A bonus.
Lauren Hutton in American Gigolo: This movie is basically one long incredibly stylish Armani commercial starring Richard Gere, but if we could pivot for a second to talk about Lauren Hutton’s Bottega Bag. It went on my moodboard immediately.
Met Gala dress code: The Met Gala dress code was announced this week. The theme is “Garden of Time.” It’s a reference to a J.G. Ballard short story (read it here), but I have a sneaking suspicion that most celebrities will simply give us groundbreaking florals for Spring. A theme this simple will be hard to mess up, but some of these people will find a way.
That’s all for today! I hope everyone has a lovely President’s day, and that everyone’s faves win tonight at the BAFTAs. See ya next week, diva!
