Welcome to the 7th edition of The Weekly Spill! Lucky number 7. I do have an update for you. Last week I shared that Lauren Bobert was being a menace at Beetlejuice. At the time, I did not have the full facts of the story, and for that, I apologize, because the full facts make the story so much funnier. She was not simply being obnoxious, she was also getting handsy with her date. Her date who co-owns a gay bar that hosts drag shows. You know, the thing that Lauren has been trying to ban due to being too sexually explicit. Not a cute look for Miss Lauren…Yikes!
Anyway….. back to me. Here are all of the things floating around my brain this week:
Everything is gray and I hate it: I have been attempting to do some fall shopping and, tragically, the color of the season appears to be gray. I hate gray. I don’t own any gray clothing because it looks horrible on me. The color just doesn’t work with my skin tone, and I end up looking sickly when I wear it. I am in the trenches right now with this trend, and the SS24 shows are leading me to believe that I will remain in these gray trenches for a while. I like the color on other people and some of the pieces I’ve seen are so cute that I am tempted, but I just can’t do it. So, for those of you who do look good in grey, here is some groutfit inspo:
Chemtrails Over the Country Club: Everyone loves to hate Chemtrails, but I relistened to the album all the way through last night and you are all wrong. I think having to be the follow-up to NFR (and the “question for the culture” of it all) influenced how people listened to and judged the album. I don’t think it’s her best, but it is a great album. Go give it another listen.
Influencers fighting no one: I managed to miss most of this discourse during NYFW, but 2 weeks later the algorithm has started to give me little bits here and there. I follow more editors than I do influencers, and the only people arguing online about the validity of influencers are influencers. They seem to think that all of the editors are spending their time ranting about the exclusivity of the fashion industry and preaching that influencers shouldn’t be at events. In reality, the editors aren’t talking about them at all. If they are having these conversations, they aren’t happening online or in the numbers that the influencers think they are. At this point, content creators at fashion events are expected, I don’t think anyone is shocked to see them there. These people are fighting in perpetuity with no one but themselves, which I think is fascinating.
This fight: While we are discussing Fashion Week fighting, let me say that this is the only one I care about/want to see. The internet drama is boring me, I want to see people going at it in person. I’ve seen every angle of this altercation. I love it. I am obviously on the side of the person working the door. Duh.

Enable 3rd party cookies or use another browserUSA Today Hiring a Taylor Swift and Beyoncé Reporter: we love a niche job. I have questions though…. one being what happens when they decide to disappear again?
The John Waters: Pope of Trash exhibition at the Academy Awards Museum: This just opened and it is the first exhibit solely dedicated to John Waters. Photos and videos from the opening party kept coming up on my feed, and every new thing I see from the exhibit is somehow cooler than the last. I already wanted to go to the Academy Museum to see Cher’s Oscar dress and walk on the Barbra Bridge, so now this is just another incentive.
70s makeup: I can’t stop saving photos of 70s (or 70s inspired) colorful makeup looks. The bright eyeshadow applied from the giant eyelashes up to the skinny eyebrow is the look. Pair that with lots of blush and a glossy lip. It is easier to achieve than the precise 60s looks and brighter than the smokey 80s ones. I am so tired of the clean girl beauty trend and the no-makeup looks. This pursuit of “effortless” perfection is exhausting and tedious. And for what? Why strive for quiet luxury when you can strive for glamour? If you are already going to essentially be in drag, at least have some fun with it. Throw on some color! More is more is more!
Jersey Shore Video Essay: I will say, without an ounce of shame, that I sat and watched all 4 hours of this in one sitting. Jersey Shore was iconic and in my younger and more vulnerable years, I was utterly obsessed with it. Yes, that was a Gatsby reference. This newsletter is about high and low culture, keep up! Jersey Shore was to the early 2010s what Urban Cowboy was to the early 80s and we all need to take a second and let that sink in. Think about it…..yeah. Exactly.
I was going to include this picture in my VMA post but decided to just talk about it here. Is there anything more representative of 2011 culture? This was a meeting of the minds, truly. This is pro-Italian-American propaganda. Who are these two if not two proud Italian girls from New York? (shh, we aren’t talking about Snooki’s heritage, she identifies as Italian)
Matchbooks: As someone plagued with nostalgia and a deep fear of losing my memory, I hoard physical evidence of my life like it is my job. Thus, I love collecting matchbooks. They are like little free souvenirs from dinners that I share with friends, and over the past few years, I have built up a small collection. They are cute and I like how they all look in a bowl in my apartment. A few weeks ago, my TikTok FYP was flooded with videos of people spending the day running around New York trying to see how many matchbooks they could collect. They weren’t eating at restaurants, or even grabbing a drink/coffee, just going in and asking for matches. As people fought over this, I noticed that I started seeing the same questions brought up over and over. Is it okay to just pop into places, get matches, and leave? Why do people even collect matches in a post-indoor-cigarette world? Will restaurants start charging for them (Dante already does) or stop having them out if people keep doing this? Are they still good marketing? I haven’t seen any of these videos in a while so maybe the match-hunting trend is already dead, but I keep wondering if it had any impact. I hope that it didn’t deter places from having matches because I love them.
Cats public service announcements: obsessed. Bring these back. I want to see Lea Michele as Fanny Brice giving a PSA on the importance of literacy.
That’s all for this week! As always, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or anything else you think I need to see please let me know. Leave a comment or something, I would love to discuss. Okay till next week… luv ya, divas!
